The Story

The A3521BSI3 offers high performance with low-light applications thanks to its unprecedentedly high sensitivity. Using Sony’s STARVIS technology with a Quad Bayer pixel array, the camera’s sensor maximizes light absorption. This allows the camera to use higher gain with minimal noise, and to record at higher frame rates which is ideal for fluorescence microscopy working in the visible emission spectrum, as well as darkfield and other low emission applications.

C-Mount

The camera uses a standard C-mount lens interface which works with a wide range of microscopes and lenses. It can be mounted directly to C-mount photo ports, or coupled with a C-mount reduction lens for use with 23mm or larger ocular tubes.

Ultimate Low-Light Performance

Using Sony’s STARVIS technology, the camera’s back-illuminated CMOS sensor is capable of capturing detail with limited illumination, making it an excellent option for use with inconsistent lighting or low-emission applications such as fluorescence and darkfield. These back-illuminated sensors have shown remarkable flexibility and a superior ability to boost the signal with limited noise which is why they are the go-to sensors for astronomy and surveillance. This 2.1MP model uses a Quad Bayer design to create larger grouped pixels which collect more light, allowing them to capture even the faintest signals. Using Sony’s standard measurement of millivolts converted over 1/30s to gauge the sensitivity, the camera’s sensor tops the chart at over 8900mV.
